Training notes, 122807

No weights.

Waldo is coming along nicely with the rawhide exercises, will spit it out whenever he even thinks Paul might come near to put something on it or want to exchange it. Will do the same for me. His obedience is good, no problems with any commands from a sitting or prone position. Wheelchair and walker practice daily. Carrying small water bottles in the backpack without a problem. However, he is still having issues with the infected anal gland (leaking red blood) so Mike will make an appt with our vet to have him sedated and the gland expressed and medication introduced into it. I will have him with me this weekend to work more with obedience in social settings.

Star seems to be having problems urinating (X1 week). She appears to be squatting quite a bit more than necessary, and Mark notes that it is mostly unproductive. She also seems to be having issues with the rawhide around another dog, she growled at a dog over the weekend after she had been given a rawhide. WPR Heather was asked not to give her rawhide again. Mark was asked to work with Star on the same exercises that Waldo has been doing. Also, Mark reports that WPR Heather states that she has to force Star into her crate, she will not go on her own. Her weekend reports do not reflect this. She was told to start feeding Star in her crate and give her a loaded Kong ball while she's in to make it more of a happy place for her.

Chesty is enrolled in a beginner agility class with WPR Dawn to try to make him more comfortable with jumping. He has been resistant to it since he was a young dog and although it doesn't seem to be getting worse, it's not any better, either. I will mention it to Paula to see if hip clearances should be done early on him. Chesty's obedience is good, although AJ notes that if he's out with WPR Dawn for more than two days he feels he has to "re-teach" Chesty alot of what he should know by now.

General had been having a very hard time with learning to tolerate the Gentle Leader. Mike's been working hard with him and he wore it though the entire class this week. Excellent job, Mike!
