Training notes, 011808

Star~
Star is having problems this week with most of her basic commands. She is whining more too. Mark is concerned that she is depressed because Waldo is gone. I have spoken to the handlers about keeping play time with the other dogs to every other day so that this doesn’t become a problem again. Mark will work with food to motivate Star this week, it worked well in class.
WPR Heather reports that she is still afraid of the hair dryer, but other noises are ok, including the vacuum. She was a little excited to go into Petsmart and find the other dogs all there and did a small amount of pulling, but got back “in line” quickly.

Chesty~
His basic obedience is good, no more pulling, refusing commands or not recalling out of an interaction with another dog. It was suggested that he work with another handler for a short time to work on decreasing handler sensitivity, so Mark and AJ will swap dogs for 2 week and report their findings then. Chesty will be re-evaluated in 4 weeks.
Chesty did a great job at Petsmart, relaxing into a down whenever Dawn stopped to chat, but did have his nose glued to the floor until we tried the prong collar.
He had an accident while with WPR Dawn on Saturday, loose stool.

General~
Still having problems with tasks while wearing the GL. I got him to speak with it on by offering him a bone. I think the problem is more with the handler than the dog and told Mike to get him happy to work with it on and keep increasing the time that it’s left on. General will be neutered this week. WPR Lisa did a good job with him in the petstore during our outing. She told me that he was much improved from last week when they did a “test run”. J
