We went to Medway Coutry Manor with Rose, Roger and General on Sunday and were enthusiastically received by all who met the dogs. They practiced WATCH ME, WAIT, HEEL, THROUGH, LEAVE IT, VISIT, STAND, SIT, DOWN, SAY HELLO, UP and STAY. They rode on an elevator twice, worked around several different wheelchairs, walkers, canes, IV pumps on poles, medication carts, rolling tray tables and geri chairs with no problem.
Rose was scared by a pile of stuffed animals at the onset of our visit so that's something that Peg will work on with her. She did fine with the people though, and her gentle nature certainly came though. Roger is an old hand at the nursing home visit, as he frequents one on weekends with WPR Michele. He showed off the trick that he knows and did a gentle "visit" with several people. General was wonderful, appropriate and an excellent ambassador as the oldest puppy there.
We are hoping to make this field trip a monthly event, it was great to see the smiles and hear the stories of other dogs that the patients there had loved.
