Training log, 110108

General~Congratulations go to General and Lisa on passing the TDI test!
He is working on faster downs and is getting much better with Mark and the alternates, still slow in class. He went to a wake service this week and was respectful and calm but more food seeking that I would care to see him. He is maturing and doesn't especially want to greet everyone that walks by him, nice attention on handler if handler has food. OK if no food is involved, but forges. He's still somewhat distracted when working around strange dogs. In class we worked on asking for a longer "VISIT" command from the dogs.

Jewel~She was great last weekend when I had her. Overwhelmed by the chihuahuas trying to kill her and by having a sleepover at Draco's house, but recalled every single time on the first call and settled by the end of 24 hours. She slept thought an entire Christening with kids running around every where. A little fear was shown with a life size mummy when out at a restaurant this weekend with her family, also with a 14 inch high robot with lots of sounds and motion in class. With the mummy it was a barely audible growl, with the robot she hid behind Dawn. Her task training is coming along well, she has an elementary grasp of all commands and is working on perfecting them. She will be 1 year old in two weeks.
Jewel tried out the Canny Collar today in class. It seemed to fit nicely and allow plenty of room for the dog to pant, but didn't ride up into the eye area. As with the GL, I do not think it's an option for a dog that's still learning, but I do like it for a dog that's getting ready to go. I really like that it's "convertible" and doesn't have to come off at all, I believe it will be easier for our clients to deal with and one less piece of equipment to have to keep track of.

Sully~HE'S BACK! Welcome back Sully, we're glad to have you!

Deacon~Deacon's last week in puppy K, they had a first aid class given by an American Red Cross certified instructor. He plays well with other puppies that will put him in his place, and is a rough player when initially introduced to the group.
