Training Notes, 022009

Both dogs were introduced to two new puppies during training this week and had a bit of a difficult time with stays at first, however with a little practice they were both able to stay in a given position with Elsa and Mighty walking around free.

Sully~59~Sully came shopping with me. We went to two department stores because he had a bit of a difficult time maintaining his position in the first. No pulling, just interested in lots of things. We went to a pizza place, he was good, went under and stayed. We also visited a laundry and Radio Shack, he was great entering and leaving at both, no sniffing or pulling in either. Daycare was great, dinner at a Chinese restaurant was good, however, he must have had some sort of nightmare~he woke up from a dead sleep barking and came out from under the table. I grabbed him and told him under and he did it, but when I told Paul about it he told me that he had seen Sully do that once before. He was a great house guest again this weekend, no problems with my dogs, and he appears to be getting used to the cranky chihuahua, giving him a rather wide berth. He and the shepherds will play all night long if I don't put a stop to it. He crated with minimal whining on Friday and none on Saturday. He did bark at the neighbor's dog in answer to Cinnamon's bark, but did quiet when told to and was able to LEAVE IT on the first command. Paul told me that they had a fire drill last week and Sully did fine going out but was a little wary of re-entering the building~head down, spooked, but he didn't refuse to go. Once back in his room he was fine. Apparently no one told him it was only a drill!

Deacon~Deacon's main issue right now is being able to work around other dogs. He had a difficult time when I brought the puppies in and had to be corrected many times before he could settle into the DOWN STAY that Scott had him in. His attention was off as well, thoughout the entire class. Cory is taking Deacon to Happy Tails every weekend for the next several weeks so that we can try to de-sensitize him.
