Our NEADS Norfolk group visited a local senior center for Grandparent's Day yesterday.
Deacon, Sally and Frankie were there from NEADS Norfolk. They all did well together, with Deacon distinguishing himself during a group shot with six puppies. He was SO good, responding to handler's commands, not bothering even the wiggling puppies on the floor. They were all extremely good about greeting the children there, allowing a child to hop around and over them, poke and pet them.
Deacon's REST command is good, he is staying in place for more than 1 minute now. He is doing distance walking (1 mile +) without any pulling. Scott is working in in areas where the other dogs eliminate, so the scent distraction is very strong. He is also working on fetching items with dog scent on them~extremely difficult for Deacon.
Sally was great with a very tiny non-verbal child who seemed to want to put the loop of her leash over her nose. She responded to a LEASH command from me and handed it to the child, all while in a down position. Her THROUGH command is coming along, and it was a great chance to practice this in a new location.
Frankie was good in class this week, except for the barking. She gets frustrated because she's not being allowed to play with the other dogs, so barks. Marie was instructed on what to do when Frankie does this. She also had a difficult time at the senior center on Sunday, barking at the other NEADS dogs who she assumed wanted to play with her. She was good and said hello to many people, but still isn't able to consistently sit for petting.
Thank you to Daisy and Sharron for coming with us to Grandparent's Day, you're both always a welcome addition to our group!
Thanks also to Lisa and Ginny for coming to class on Saturday, we are hoping to have new puppies for you soon.
