Waldo~I gave Paul a suggestion that he try to actually be in the wheelchair for a time every day, starting with an hour and increasing as the weeks go by. This will give him a chance to see what his handler will see and give Waldo an leg up on his training. We are still working on consistency but he's doing well with Paul. Waldo did well at class with WPR Sandy on Friday night, but was rather pushy during playtime with a female GSD (Kina) who was a very soft player. We allowed Draco to play referee and after a few minutes, Waldo was more calm and Kina was more confident. I put Draco away and the other two played nicely after that.
Chip~His confidence is increasing every day. He is still pulling a bit so he has a new collar, a nylon slip that I fit for him. He will outgrow it in a wink but for now it's working well. Mike is happy with his progress. WPR Sally brought Chip to puppy class at Alpha Dog this week where he met six other dogs and played very appropriately. She is noticing that his "shyness" is decreasing on weekend outings.
Star~Mark is working with Star on "watch me" under distraction and properly greeting "outside people", that is people that do not live in the prison. She is rather indifferent to the men inside the facility but gets very overstimulated when she meets a person that has all of the different smells on them that come from simply living and working in a different place. Star got to meet her WPR, Melissa, this week. Melissa has another dog at home and is very familiar with raising and training a puppy. I think the interaction with the other dog will be really good for Star!
Chesty~AJ is working on "no pull" with Chesty, playing the "catch my drift" game from My Smart Puppy, as well as working on "watch me". His WPR Dawn took him to the same class this weekend as Star and someone was growling during a relaxed down, so we will closely monitor that situation. Chesty got along well with Dawn's other dog and there was only one minor skirmish over a toy during the entire weekend.
