I am setting up written rules for the alternate handlers this week, they will be posted here as well as in writing to the full-time and alternate handlers. I have seen incorrect dog handling and have received complaints from the full time handlers which made it necessary to release two alternates from the program this week.
Everyone worked from the wheelchair this week, all pups are doing fine with it, no fear, no aggression. All dogs were requested to work with the walker this week, and to practice one-stair walking, up and down.
Waldo~I have received some suggestions from Brian for things to work on with Waldo. He will be working on commands given from a recumbant position as if his person had fallen out of bed or the wheelchair. He will be given a small amount of weight to carry (a 1/2 full water bottle) in the backpack he wears. Paul has been working on fading all hand signals and is almost there, he will also work on having Waldo respond to commands given out of sight or with his handler's back to him. Waldo has had a bit of stomach upset so will not be going out this weekend.
Star~WPR Heather says she is much better with the crate. She had a "sleepover" in Paul's room this week, so he could assist Mark with this behavior that she will not exhibit with him. Excellent team work, thank you!! I asked Mark to work more with Star in the wheelchair this week. He is working on fading all hand cues for behaviors that she knows well.
Chesty~Chesty got neutered this week, so he hasn't done alot of work since then, only polishing his attention. We are weaning off of the Triple Crown collar already, he is learning not to Hoover while walking and will "leave it" for much longer with higher value treats/garbage on the ground.
General~12 weeks~Basics are coming along well, still consistently pulling on the leash while walking, attention needs work.
