Training notes, 012510

Sally~62lbs, 22 inches. Sally is almost 14 months old and is working on perfecting her task work and working on all commands without physical signals of any kind, before she goes back to NEADS to be matched with her new handler. She is still a low-confidence dog and still very occasionally lets out a bark or extremely low growl until she sees what the new object/person is. The fastest way to extinguish this behavior appears to be to tell her to SAY HELLO or LEAVE IT. She will comply immediately.

JC~Is working on NUDGE, LIGHTS OUT and PAWS. The dogs often have a difficult time distinguishing between the three, so it's helpful to work on them on different days so they don't see them as connected in any way. JC went to a horse barn with me last week and did extremely well after her initial "HOLY MOLY!". In 10 minutes she was jumping up onto a tack box to SAY HELLO to a horse in his stall. Excellent job.

Rubin~Is doing well with his basic obedience and learning attention to handler in public. He has a difficult time with BGN on hard surfaces, so we will concentrate on that this week.

Cheyenne~This puppy has laser beam focus on her handler and LOVES to work. She is fearless and sweet and loves everyone. We're going to get along just fine. :)
